Vanity Report: National Lash Day
Yesterday was National Drink Wine Day and today is National Lash Day, and much like I don’t need a holiday to remind me to have a (daily) glass of wine, I also don’t need one to remind me to obsess over lashes. Still, celebrate them, we must! I am not naturally blessed with full, long lashes. My eyelashes do this weird thing – they are stick straight and grow at a slight downward angle. So you can bet that when it comes to perfecting lashes, I know what I’m talking about. And I think the very fact that I am eyelash impaired makes me obsess over them all-the-more, aiming for drama, drama, drama any chance I get. First off, I rarely use eyelash curlers – I need a more heavy-duty technique, the vintage spoon method (Google it). Once I have mega-curled my lashes, I perfect my look with one of the following:
1. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
Real Competition for Tarte’s iconic mascara, this mascara does volume and width unlike any other. I always opt for the waterproof formula because, well, I need all the help I can get. Thanks to the added wax in waterproof formulas, nothing gets my curl out.
2. Shu Uemura Lash Curler
I did say I rarely use eyelash curlers. They never work for me. But this one is magic.
3. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
Also in the waterproof formula, this is one of my favorite drug store mascaras. Maybelline does a stellar job with mascara formulas and I rarely try one I don’t like, but this one does it all – curl, volume, ease of use.
4. Tarte Lights Camera Lashes
I remember the first time I tried this mascara, I was still in my teens. Even then, with my less extensive knowledge of beauty products, I knew this mascara was it.
5. Battington Lashes Bardot
This is what all eyelashes should be. Always. But for the most part, my preference for evening looks, big events. The are for when you’re pulling all the stops.
6.Ardell Natural Wispies
These are my favorite lashes for more casual events that still require dolling up – daytime photo sessions, brunches, bridal showers, etc. And you can’t even see the strip! Plus, they’re super affordable.
7. Shiseido Full Lash and Brow Serum
Again, I am not gifted in the lash department. My very thin lashes need a boost and this serum makes them look darker and fuller, a perfect base for whatever else I’m using, be it lashes or mascara.
8. Dúo Lash Adhesive
Super cheap, super effective and durable. Always purchase in black.
